Minute Taker in Edinburgh

Hi Everyone

This week we are looking at some hints and tips for minute taking. As a professional minute taker in Edinburgh and at various locations in Scotland, I think this would be a good time to provide you with a few tips on how to take good and effective minutes. So here we go:

  1. Try and develop a technique that enables you to listen while you type. You should be writing what was just said at the same time as listening to what is being said. It's one of the most important skills for minute takers.

  2. Focus on the. Chair, he/she should summarise the decisions and introduce the items.

  3. You don't need to write down everything, take a rest when people repeat what other speakers have already said. In a 2 or 3 hour meeting you will need a rest or two.

  4. You can ask the participants to repeat something if you don't understand it, or to clarify a decision.

  5. Do not panic if you feel lost. You can find out a lot of information after the meeting, just make sure you at least try and catch the decisions, although they can also often be clarified after the meeting.

Hope this helps, more tips in my future blogs. Minute taking is a skill but it can be learned. However in the meantime if you need a qualified, experienced minute taker for your meeting in Edinburgh, Glasgow or throughout Scotland, then contact me on 0775 213 5055.
