Top Tips for Minute Takers in Scotland and throughout the UK.

Taking minutes is a crucial task in any meeting, ensuring that discussions, decisions, and action items are accurately recorded and communicated. For those searching for a minute taker in Scotland, or whether you're in Edinburgh or Glasgow, or looking for a minute taking professional UK, understanding the key aspects of minute taking is essential. Here, we explore the five most important aspects of minute taking, helping you master this vital skill.

  1. Make sure you are well prepared and have read the papers thoroughly and understand fully what the meeting will be about.

  2. Try to determine exactly what kind of minute the organisation is looking for. Is it more action based, or do they want a long full minute etc.

  3. Try to find out as much as you can about the participants and the roles they play in the organisation.

  4. Listen and take notes of everything you hear, even if you do not understand it at the time. You can clarify aspects of teh meeting later and it will all fit into place once you are completing the minute.

  5. Do not leave it too long. Although you will have your notes and you may even have recorded the meeting, much of the main minjute can be completed from memory and I would estimate that after 5 days or so, you will have forgotten the key issues and this will effect the quality of the final minute.

So I hope this helps all you budding minute takers out there.

Until next time.

Kind Regards

Colin
